For the blockchain community, this is more than a product launch; it's a values conflict dressed in engineering. The promise is privacy, lower latency, and less reliance on Big Tech's servers. But beneath the surface, it raises a question we must answer: is this a genuine step toward decentralization, or a sophisticated compliance shield for a centralized business model?

Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine that answers queries with real-time citations, has announced a Windows desktop application that performs local inference—running parts of the AI model directly on your PC rather than sending every query to their cloud. The company claims this reduces data exposure and speeds up responses.
